Comments:
Tag along dive with three advanced students practising their navigation and one ow student. Instructor asked me to buddy up with one of the 3 AdvOW students UW and to make sure he was going the right way... easier said then done. Kept finning off in the wrong direction and leaving me to try and find him again. He refused to take direction on direction or to fin slower - especially as he was getting low on air. He surfaced without notice into a shipping channel. He was working out where he was - as soon as I swam up to him, he descended again (without notice). Again I followed him. In the process of his descent he got totally turned around again once more finning off full speed in the completely wrong direction. I caught up with him again, again showed him the direction to follow - he lined up his compass then sped off again - very shortly in the wrong direction again. He surfaced again without notice. Before he could descend again I informed him we were swimming back on the surface - his air was now 35bar and was refusing to listen to me on compass work or to fin slower to reduce air consumption. He then swam off full speed, again leaving me behind. I caught up and I got him to slow down and we finned back in on our backs. Ah, the joys of an AdvOW dive student who thinks they are Advanced divers with a grand total of 6 dives.
